In college on
Monday I did artist research and made notes. The first one I identified was
John William Waterhouse. I love his painting of the lady of Shallot (1888).
I do not know if I will use any of his work yet but it helps
in secondary research and I love the sense of tragedy and sadness you get when
you look at the image. I took a lot longer than I thought on research so need a
clear plan for Tuesday. My mum gave me a set of her favourite books to look at
called The Enchanted World to see if I could get some ideas. They are about
folklore and mythology and are famous for the research into the myths and the
related artwork and drawings. In regard to Arthur and Merlin they have a book
to themselves called The Fall of Camelot but they also appear a lot in Legends
of Valour and Giants and Ogres. I loved the drawings and in particular was
drawn to Yvonne Gilbert who is an artist that works with coloured pencil. I
find her work elegant and very detailed.
I spent too much time looking at these books and researching
Gilbert but on a good note I knew I would use her for critical studies and an
artist research sheet. On Wednesday I planned what I needed to do and it was a
mood board on Arthurian characters and research. This took me over three days
which was longer than I planned for. I kept getting side-tracked and kept
trying to get the drawings perfect.
On Saturday I had a really good day because I visited the
Royal Armouries in Leeds. I took some photographs for primary research and
observational drawings. It was a long day but I got some good ideas and
research.
On Sunday I tried to work on my blog and references but
found it difficult because I find it boring. I know it is important but keep
getting stressed so try and put it off.
