business card intro

Creating a business card

One thing I have become aware of is if I want to succeed in a Creative field I have to do a lot of self-promotion. Artists and illustrators spend a lot of time creating an online presence such as Tumblr, Flickr and Pinterest, building portfolios (in folders and online), but sometimes forgot about a simple thing such as business card. By creating a memorable business card in a snapshot you give potential buyers a reason to hold onto your information—making it easier to look you up or contact you.

By a snapshot I mean it contains the basic but most important detail such as who you are, what you do and how to contact you (phone, email).

I looked at various word documents, publisher templates and google images for different formats. I looked at my own work and used some designs of my past work. I have one card I use from last year which I have included in my folder.

For this exhibition of my Final Major Piece (FMP) I have to design a professional and a corporate business card linked to my them of Merlin/Legend of King Arthur.

I have looked at some of the different options and I think some of the main points are:

*      Put your preferred contact details first. If it is easier to reach you on Facebook or email put this first rather than a phone number;

*      Put a piece of your work on. This will make people remember why they have taken your card;

*      Leave some space on the back of your card. You can add information for the person taking your card such as the best time to contact you.

*      Do not waste space. Don’t overcrowd your card but at the same time you want to get as much relevant information on there as you can. This could be a memorable quote from an artist you admire to promoting any of your social media sites.

For this project I have decided on a straightforward business card with an image from this project and my email as my initial contact plus my Facebook page.

For my corporate business card, I have decided to do the card in the form of a scroll. It will contain the same information as my professional business card but links in with my project and will grab people’s attention as it is different and hopefully will stand.

Below is a photo of what it may look like when I was experimenting.
