At college I had a busy day because I worked on stuff for my
tech file which included Batik and silk printing. At home I continued work on
the velour picture as this is a possibility for poster 2.
On Tuesday I worked all day on poster 1 then continued my
cross stitch.
On Wednesday I had a mixed day but it was good because I
achieved a lot on different things. I continued work on poster 1 and made great
headway then did the same with my cross stitch. I also went back to making some
books and a storage box. The books and box I bought but I added material such
as leather and suede then added decoration to make them appear more authentic,
resemble books of Merlin. I had got the leather scraps off eBay (through my
parents).
Before I could finish poster 1 I needed to work on gold leaf
so I did some experimenting with my dad then he filmed me working with it. I
got some good results so felt confident to finish my poster. I had to work quickly but carefully as the gold
leaf is very fragile. I finished off with adding final details to the castle.
On Friday I finished my velour picture and decided this was
not workable as an option for poster 2. I have loved working on velour but I
need to experiment more in this area in the future. One problem was I used pastel
sticks and I am used to pastel pencils (one of my favourite media) and it was
difficult to set the final piece so it did not smudge.
My second poster was going to be influenced by Mark Langenenckert
(pastel artist) but after this work decided to use Yvonne Gilbert (pencil
artist). I have chosen watercolour and coloured pencil for my second poster. I
moved the figures around on my design sheet but it did not look right. I
decided to base poster 2 on Arthur and Guinevere as they are in love and happy
and Camelot is in its Golden Age. This is reflected in my title Golden Years
(and also seen in the legend and TV Series).
On Friday I visited the Cooper Gallery and then came home
early so I as I said earlier I finished the velour picture and did some
research for poster 3.
On Saturday I compiled my tech folder and made notes for
each sample. I then worked on poster 2 design and planned poster 3. I looked at
some Art Nouveau posters and decided I liked the work of Louis John Rhead.
