Section 1: Review (approx 150 words)

Last year's
Final Major Project was Freedom and I found this better than previous
projects. It helped me realise different ways of working and allowed my
artwork to interact with the community, which was a great opportunity.
Freedom was more enjoyable than other projects due to the fact that I could
take it where I wanted to; this was developed with the first project of Year
2 with The World Live In as this was another project I enjoyed and also
seemed to be slightly more free reign due to the sketchbook work and choosing
what to include. found the project from Shawlands School to be quite
difficult, I feel more guidelines could have been included, although did
enjoy it towards the end and it has helped me develop better social and working
skills. With this project J am aiming to try and plan my time and experiment
with different ways of working.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx 250 words)

I have chosen the theme of Arthurian Legends as it is
something I hold close to myself and want to explore more deeply with my
artwork. I have drawn this subject since was a child but stopped due to other
projects, bringing it into my work once again is something t am very excited
about. My idea is to look at the original and modern adaptations of the
legend, for inspiration and research, but I am looking specifically at the TV
series Merlin as this is the adaptation reiate to and enjoy the most. I will
be taking the characters from the series and turning their trials and
romances into movie posters, possibly a trilogy, based on a forties/fifties
design. For research am planning on to look closely at the TV series and the
character designs, the Imagine FX magazines, and books surrounding this
theme. Proposed primary research is taking photographs of family members and
friends and using this to help me draw and design the characters, along with
photographs and observational drawings taken from museums such as Leeds
Armouries, York and Nottingham Castle. want to look closely at artists such
as Yvonne Gilbert and Osvaldo Venturi, and possibly use their styles in the
film posters, particularly Venturi's style of bright colours and blocked out
shapes. Proposed research for this is looking closely at his illustrations
and paintings, art websites, blogs and maybe books on his work. Other artists may be looking at are Rene Peron, Luigi Martinati and Reynold Brown.
Section 3: Evaluation

As time
management is not my strong point, this wilt be a major aspect for me to
focus on during this project in order to successfully complete it. To help
with this I am going to write fists and targets to complete, and rnake a time
management ptan. Another issue is being indecisive; the standard of work is
there, I just need to try and look at each initial idea in good timing, pick
one and try and stick with it, although I am aware ideas may change as the
project progresses and develops. To evaluate my work throughout the project,
will be keeping a blog and making annotations/notes in a notebook, in my
sketchbook and on sheet work.
