At the start of the lesson, the whole class went around Barnsley snapping photographs of buildings, architecture, typography and anything else they found interesting. Then, we went to visit the Mattisse exhibition at The Civic. Photos that I've taken from the exhibition:
I thought the Mattisse exhibition was quite good, and I enjoyed the vivid colours used in his displayed work, but I didn't find his work interesting enough. I enjoy art work that is thought provoking and draws me into the picture somehow, and possibly tells a story. I didn't find this in the Mattisse exhibition. However, I appreciate that this is some of his later work and the use of live models he used is quite an interesting process.
Afterwards, back in the classroom, we were shown examples of 3D looking images painted onto cardboard, along with other artwork created through cardboard, as inspiration for our own cardboard landscape. After pairing up with my friend Elizabeth, we decided that we were going to take photos from our trip around Barnsley earlier in the day and place them together to create a silhouette of a skyline. After sketching out each building, then using black acrylic to paint it black, we cut away the tops of each building.

This week we also started to draw out other parts of buildings onto the cardboard, to be continued next lesson.
